How to cancel ChatGPT Plus and request a refund
Cancel web, Apple, or Google Play billing correctly, avoid the next renewal, and follow the official refund route for your purchase channel.
Cancellation stops a future renewal; it does not automatically create a refund request. Cancel at least 24 hours before the next billing date, then use the official refund route for the web, Apple, or Google Play channel that charged you.
Cancel a web subscription
- Sign in to the charged ChatGPT account
- Open profile > Settings > Billing
- Choose Cancel under Cancel plan
- Keep the confirmation and verify the effective end date
Apple and Google Play use different controls
- Cancel an iOS subscription in Apple subscription settings
- Cancel an Android subscription in Google Play subscriptions
- Deleting the ChatGPT app does not stop billing
- Check the receipt before choosing a cancellation or refund route
How to request a refund
- For chatgpt.com purchases, sign in to the charged account at the OpenAI Help Center and use the chat widget
- For eligible Google Play purchases, use the OpenAI Help Center route described by OpenAI
- For Apple purchases, request cancellation and a refund directly from Apple
- Include the charged account, receipt, date, amount, currency, and purchase channel
Timing and eligibility
- Cancel at least 24 hours before the next billing date to avoid the next charge
- Subscription fees are generally non-refundable, but OpenAI says accidental purchases are generally eligible when requested within 14 days
- Eligible web refunds are processed in 5–7 business days; eligible Google Play refunds can take up to 10 days
- Eligibility depends on purchase channel, location, timing, and the current policy shown by support
