Claude Pro vs Max price: 5x and 20x plan guide
Compare Pro, Max 5x, and Max 20x by monthly price, annual options, session and weekly limits, Claude Code usage, and paid usage credits.
Claude Pro is US$20 monthly or US$200 prepaid annually. Max is monthly only: US$100 for 5x Pro usage or US$200 for 20x. Max buys capacity and higher output limits, not unlimited use; five-hour session and weekly limits still apply.
Current individual web prices
- Pro: US$20 monthly or US$200 billed upfront annually (about US$17 per month)
- Max 5x: US$100 per month
- Max 20x: US$200 per month
- Prices exclude applicable tax; mobile-store pricing and Korean card totals can differ
What Max changes
- Max includes Pro features and offers 5x or 20x Pro usage per five-hour session
- Higher output limits and priority access at busy times
- Claude Code, Cowork, Research, web, desktop and mobile activity draw from the shared plan pool
- Max remains subject to weekly all-model and Sonnet-specific limits
Choose Pro first when
- Claude is important but does not interrupt most workdays with plan limits
- Annual prepayment is acceptable and the US$200 total is justified
- Claude Code is occasional rather than an all-day workflow
- You can wait for limits to reset instead of paying five to ten times more
Consider Max only after measuring
- Pro limits repeatedly stop paid work across several weeks
- The interruption cost is demonstrably above the Max price difference
- Max 5x is tested before considering the US$200 20x tier
- Settings > Usage confirms which models and workflows consume the shared allowance
Usage credits can change the decision
Paid subscribers can enable prepaid usage credits after reaching included limits. Continued use is charged separately at standard API rates. Set a monthly cap, alerts, and auto-reload threshold before comparing occasional overage with a permanent Max upgrade.
